Brussels Griffon Breed Standards
The first step to arriving at the present day Brussels Griffon was crossing the German Affenpinscher and the Belgian street dog back in the 17th century. They became common place in stables and homes for their vermin catching abilities. At a later date they were crossed with the pug to give them the look of present day. Crossing the pug into the bloodline put a halt to their excellent vermin catching skills, but made for a very unique look. They kind of have a grumpy old man look going on.
